Terrific Toys: Medical Monopoly Game

Start with four competing hospitals. Add to each a staff doctor whose job is to travel about town in search of patients, as well as medicine and facilities with which to treat them. You have the makings of Medical Monopoly. Each player begins the game with $500. These funds may be spent on various organs and body parts, as well as pharmacies and operating rooms (instead of buying Park Place, you buy organ parts and perform transplants). These assets will enable the competent health care practitioner to successfully diagnose and treat patients, whenever they land on an “Office Visit” square (Office Visit cards have symptoms printed on one side, and the correct diagnosis and treatment on the other). While Medical Monopoly offers its share of light-hearted spoofing of the medical industry, it also offers accurate lessons in anatomy, first aid and basic medical practice. In fact, Medical Monopoly is currently used by several school districts to teach health care. Includes game board, twelve Organ cards, twelve Transplant cards, twenty-four First Aid cards, twenty Office Visit cards, nine Miscellaneous cards, forty-eight Patient tokens, Doctor’s Manual, dice, pawns and instructions. For 2-4 players age 6 through adult.
