Uthini? (Swahili for “Pardon Me,” as in, “Pardon me, how did you make that move?”) is an African strategy game with elements of Backgammon and Senet, the Egyptian race game. The object is to move twelve stones from one end of the board to the other. Along the way, opportunites to thwart your opponent abound. The reversible Uthini? board is decorated with 19 traditional African symbols. On its reverse side is a traditional Mancala game. One of the world’s oldest and most popular games, Mancala’s object is to finish the game in possession of more stones than your opponent. If your strategy is successful, you may claim entire groups of your opponent’s stones ---- but beware! Your stones may also be claimed, so it is prudent to limit the number stored in one spot. The reversible Uthini?/Mancala game board fits snugly into a gorgeous carved frame that features African animals and scenes from Egypt and South Africa. Stones are glass, playing board is solid wood, and the base frame is made of recycled, molded plastic. Includes instructions for both games. For two players, age four through adult.
